Free Web Based Resources Recommended by GUHSD

We may not be actively training teachers to use these tools, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of them in case you are looking for that little something extra to add to your toolbox.  These tools are available to use for free, although some may have paid features that are not currently supported by our district.  Also, some technology tools may be incompatible with our system and therefore may not be available for you to use if you decide to make a personal purchase for an alternative tool.  Please submit a ticket to IT before making any personal purchases to assess tool compatibility.

Below are some other digital learning tools that may enhance your instruction:

Create visually appealing infographics, dynamic teacher introduction presentations, and many other digital items using this dynamic free tool.  It easily embeds in Canvas or can be shared to Google Classroom.  Students can engage in collaborative projects as well.

Canva Resource


This is a digital classroom management tool that can gamify your class by allowing students to level up their avatars, earn rewards independently or in groups, as well as challenging and defeating bosses created by the teacher.

This tool allows you to create an interactive learning experience from any worksheet.  The teacher is able to view progress and provide feedback in real time.  This can be a great tool for creating a learning playlist, stations, flipped learning, or remote learning activity.

GoFormative resource


With this tool, you can make any online learning an interactive assignment by overlaying questions and additional resources into any webpage or digital text.

Gamification


This tool allows you and your students to digitally annotate any digital text.  You can also download your annotations as a PDF in order to submit them or keep them in a notes folder.

Khan Academy is a repository of instructional videos and interactive practices with immediate feedback on an infinite amount of topics.  You can send students to individual resources or you can create a class where you can track student progress and provide additional feedback.

Create a digital bulletin board where you or your students can curate resources, create or respond to questions, or demonstrate learning.

Padlet resources


Created by the University of Colorado Boulder, engage your students with interactive science and math simulations which also include lesson plans with questions you can use to enhance the learning experience. Most simulations will run on Chromebooks!

Phet Lab Resources


Gamify your assessment with Quizizz.  Students love the funny memes that follow answering each question.  You can create your own Quizizz from scratch, use one that has already been made, or easily create one that is a combination of questions you liked from several different Quizizz.  This can be played in class or assigned outside of class.  You can even have students in different class period compete against one another!

This tool has been a mainstay for digital flashcards.  You can create sets to assign to students or you can have them create their own sets to support their review.  You can also use your sets to play Quizlet Live, the fast pace in-person vocabulary review game that requires students to collaboratively answer questions to see which team will win!

Socrative is another tool to add some variety to your digital checks for understanding.  You can create a quiz that is completed independently or as a space race team challenge with an exciting on-screen point tracker.  You can also use the premade exit ticket form that supports your class closure with the touch of a button.

This tools is great for making any image interactive.  We often use images to stimulate thinking; however, we can take that a step further by adding hotspots to the image that connect students with information, videos, or additional information when they click on each spot.  You can make learning from maps, political cartoons, diagrams, worked out math problems, completed essays, etc into valuable independent learning opportunities.
